You Should've Been There...

Sheesh, it’s August already! Summer 2023 is almost over, but there are still lots of exciting art events to look forward to.

Superchief x THE CANVAS Collage Group Exhibition

We spent the last Friday of July 2023 roaming the Westfield World Trade Center, getting lost in a fine selection of digital collages by some of the most talented artists on the scene.

This exhibition was put together by Superchief NFT and THE CANVAS as part of a collaborative effort to showcase works that seek expression in new media forms. The Oculus was transformed into a wondrous arena with breathtaking installations that challenged us to interpret the world anew.

The organizers deserve flowers for knocking it out of the park with this event. It was a rich experience observing how contemporary art has evolved to tell age-old stories of the human condition in new ways. Even the title of the event is steeped in cultural and historical significance.

“Everything But The Kitchen Knife” is a nod to the groundbreaking collage by Hannah Höch. The full title is “Cut with the Kitchen Knife Dada Through the Last Weimar Beer Belly Cultural Epoch of Germany (1919).” It refers to the analog (and surely painstaking) process of photomontage at the time.

Over a century later, we felt blessed to experience the same wonder of peeling through the layers of a collage. Hanna Höch would be so proud!

SuperRare x 0x.17 Gallery x Dave Krugman Present “ROLLS”

We spent Monday evening at The Seaport in NYC, celebrating Dave Krugman’s latest creative endeavor. He calls this “ROLLS,” and it feels like an experimental foray into the interesting overlaps of blockchain and photographic film technologies.

Just like camera film rolls, the blockchain can be conceived of as an immutable time chain, representing events in a fixed chronology. This is the paradigm shift that Dave seeks to explore with a long-term project.

A SuperRare auction was launched a few days later, on August 3, 2023. It featured ten works released in sequence, each one a placeholder corresponding to one frame on one unshot roll of film.

Once all tokens are sold, Dave will saddle up with the ol’ Mamiya 7ii Medium Format film camera and shoot the entire roll. Afterwards, the token metadata of each piece will be “developed” and updated to show the final high-res film scans.

The neat little bit of genius at play here is how Dave’s very analog camera will take on the essence of a “mint” button in this experiment. It’s just one of several layers of depth and meaning that accompany each step of this process.

Eminent Opens Art Submissions

We’ve been itching to do this for a long time, and now the doors are finally open to our beloved artist community. Eminent takes pride in sharing and curating art that moves people. This is a step that brings us closer to our goal.

Top Sales of the Week 🔥

This week’s top sale on SuperRare was this artwork titled ‘Eclectic Social Maniacs’ by Botto. It’s a riveting composition that features hints of impressionism and abstraction.

Some interesting trivia about the credited artist: Botto is a a decentralized, autonomous artist governed by BottoDAO. This piece went for 8.48 ETH on July 28, 2023.

On Foundation, this work titled ‘Ex Cineribus’ by Kazonomics found a new home with an anonymous collector on July 29, 2023.

Dominant hues of pink and blue set the tone for this piece. It oozes defiant energy and calm assurance beneath the swirling whorls and heat map motifs. This one was picked up for 6.39 ETH.
