October Keeps Getting Better

Plus, an exclusive interview with Mpozzecco

Midway through October, and our excitement levels are still through the roof!

We’ve been hard at work on a content series on the incredible artists and collectors in Web3 (you should definitely check ‘em out). This week, though, there’s a lot more on the plate for you to enjoy:

Cory Haber Merges Generative and Physical Art

Have you ever looked at a cloud and seen an image up there? Chances are that if you tried to show it to someone, they would have a hard time making it out the same way you did. That experience, my friend, is called ‘apophenia.’

Well, the official definition of the term is “the tendency to perceive meaningful connections between unrelated things.” But what the heck does any of this have to do with Cory Haber’s latest drop?

‘Apophenies’ is a collection of 100 unique oil paintings that explore the concept of creative abstraction vis-à-vis human perception. And it gets even more interesting. Haber’s collection is the result of a year of work with his custom-built mechanical plotter, which converts code into physical artwork.

The collection was launched at an event in NYC in collaboration with Bright Moments, where attendees got to watch a live demonstration of Haber’s plotter in action. This was followed by an exciting auction where collectors finally had a chance to acquire artwork from the fresh drop!

SuperChief Gallery’s Halloween Party

It’s spooky season, and we only get so many “Friday, the 13th’s” in October. This year, the folks at SuperChief decided to make it one to remember. And boy, do they know how to throw a fun party!

Powered by THE CANVAS, this event was curated by tattoo artist Reverend Leaf. We had photography, fashion, sick tattoos, and so much more. Of course, it wouldn’t be a SuperChief party without an exhibition.

The gallery doors at The Oculus Center in NYC opened for the art show at noon, lasting for six hours before the main event kicked off until 9 p.m.

Exclusive Interview With mpozzecco

Remember the artist spotlight series we mentioned earlier? One of the legends that we wrote about is none other than Mpozzecco, a Known Origin Hall-of-Famer.

This week, we caught up with the generative artist for an interview, discussing everything from artistry to blockchains.

Eminent: Hello, thanks for joining us! Can you give us a quick intro to your creative background prior to the blockchain era?

Hey! It’s Mpozzecco; I am a self-taught NFT artist from Turkey. My foray into art wasn't through traditional means. I am a self-taught NFT artist. My interest in geometric shapes and patterns began as a personal hobby, something I played around with during my free hours. Over time, the passion grew, and I started diving deeper into the world of abstraction, learning through experimentation and online resources.

Being self-taught has its challenges, but it also offers freedom in the sense that I am not bound by any predefined rules or structures. This liberty allowed me to develop a unique style, pulling inspiration from various sources: architecture, digital media, and even mathematics. I consumed online tutorials, studied the works of great abstract artists, and continuously refined my skills using digital tools.

I became aware of NFTs around mid-2021 and was intrigued by the blend of art and technology. By November, after much research and self-learning about the crypto space, I decided to mint my first piece.

Eminent: Here's a rather simple question: Of all the art mediums in the world, why code?

Diving deep into the world of code as my art medium is synonymous with embarking on an endless journey through a rich and unpredictable landscape, particularly in my profound affinity for generative art via nodes. The method of utilizing nodes and algorithms to produce art provides an exquisite blend of structure and chaos, design and unpredictability, which has perpetually fascinated and inspired me.

Generative art through nodes is an exploration into a realm where each node carries a set of rules, a seed that blossoms into mesmerizing and often unforeseen visual patterns. It becomes a magical tool, enabling me to weave complex, evolving, and often self-perpetuating tapestries of digital aesthetics. It is this intersection of mathematics, logic, and unbridled creativity that illuminates my passion and curiosity.

Generative art allows for a combination of control and serendipity, where I can create a structured environment using node and then permit the algorithm to independently navigate through that environment, producing unexpected and organically evolving outcomes

With node-based systems, each node or unit holds specific rules and properties, and when they interact or communicate, they create intricate patterns and visuals that are often unforeseeable and enchantingly complex. This approach not only introduces a realm of endless possibilities and variations but also introduces an element of surprise and discovery in the creative process, something that is both challenging and invigorating as an artist.

Eminent: You've been described as a blockchain-agnostic artist, having published on Ethereum, Tezos, and Solana. How important is it to you that your work be made available on various chains?

Being a blockchain-agnostic artist is crucial to me because I believe in inclusivity and accessibility in the art world. Different blockchains have various communities, each with unique attributes and values.

Ethereum has a robust and mature NFT ecosystem; Tezos is known for its energy efficiency and low minting costs; and Solana brings forth fast transactions and low fees. By publishing on multiple chains, I aim to reach diverse audiences, provide accessibility, and also support various blockchain ecosystems, which all have their own distinct advantages and innovations.

Though different blockchains bring along varied capabilities, communities, and opportunities, my art remains a constant, unwavering entity, ever-present in its original form and intention. Each piece of art carries with it a piece of my soul and ideology, regardless of the technological medium it is transmitted through.

Utilizing various blockchains like Ethereum, Tezos, and Solana allows me to navigate through diverse ecosystems and connect with varied audiences, but irrespective of the chain, it's the art that stands timeless and unaltered in its essence.

To every observer, collector, and appreciator across these platforms, I offer not just a digital asset but a piece of immutable, eternal artistry that persists no matter which blockchain carries it. It is this immutability of artistic expression that I hold dear and endeavor to share across the multiple, blossoming landscapes of the blockchain world.

Eminent: Has it been challenging to assimilate into the art communities on different blockchains?

It has indeed been a fascinating journey to navigate through various blockchain communities. Each blockchain has its own culture, norms, and dynamics. Ethereum's community is vast and diverse, offering a plethora of platforms and a rich history in the NFT space.

Tezos and Solana, on the other hand, have their own unique aspects and communities that prioritize different aspects like sustainability and transaction efficiency, respectively. Bridging the aesthetic and conceptual relevance of my art to resonate with these varied communities has been both challenging and rewarding.

Engaging with different communities, understanding their values, and collaborating with other artists and platforms intrinsic to each blockchain have been vital to creating a presence and mutual respect.

Eminent: What insights can you share with artists looking for a breakthrough moment of discovery in the Web3 space?

Community Engagement: Be active in online channels, social media, spaces and events to understand and become a part of the Web3 communities

Collaboration: Consider collaborating with other artists and creators. Cross-promotion and co-creating can pave the way for broader visibility and creative fusion. Up to now, I have made over 50 collabs, and each one has taught me something new.

Innovation: Don't be afraid to experiment and innovate. The digital space is all about exploration and new experiences. Your unique approach could be the next big thing!

Authenticity: Stay true to your art and vision. Authenticity resonates with audiences and helps build a genuine follower base that appreciates your work.
