Dear Diary, This Week Was Massive

Here’s all the recent news you missed about on-chain art.

What’s up, Eminent fam? 😎

It’s that time again when we bring you up to speed with all the latest updates from the past week, so buckle up and let’s dive in.

FND Top Sale Of The Week

This week’s highest grossing sale was this piece called “Retina” by Rafaël Rozendaal.

It was collected on Sunday, July 9 by an anonymous collector for 5 ETH.

Encoded by Reiner Feijen, this SVG animation features a composition of four-sided geometric shapes traveling along a vertical and horizontal axis. The blue and red shapes morph into various configurations, challenging the viewer’s perception of motion, symmetry, and balance.

SuperRare Top Sale Of The Week

The highest sale on SuperRare this week was recorded when a pseudonymous collector under the moniker “Pepelife” purchased this piece called “Historic Political Plowig” for 20 ETH.

Created by Botto, this work contemplates the rebellious nature of the modern Pepe meme. Following hot on the heels of the recent memecoin season and the crypto market’s latest struggles with regulated authorities, “Historic Political Plowig” is pitch perfect and a great commentary on the resilient spirit of Web3 culture.

Intergalactic Visions Of Ursa Major

This breathtaking piece by Ronan Hunt pays homage to the M101 Pinwheel Galaxy, situated 21 million lightyears away in the constellation Ursa Major. M101 is distinguished by its grand spiral structure, characterized by well-defined arms that emanate gracefully from a bright central region.

The density of H II regions, rich in ionized hydrogen, contributes to the galaxy's overall luminosity and is responsible for its striking appearance. We love the humbling scale of this artwork, but it is the energy that pulsates through the swirls and curls of this photograph that has us enthralled.

As the Genesis token for this deep space object, the collector will enjoy the exclusive right to any airdrops of future iterations or images of M101, as well as the option of a physical print. We have curated this piece in our “Astro” world. Check it out here on Foundation.

Barrat’s Story Is Bigger Than The “Lost Robbies”

The enigmatic masterpiece series by Irish generative art pioneer was the talk of the on-chain art scene quite recently. On July 3, one of the rare 300 copies of “AI Generated Nude Portrait #7 Portrait #169” was acquired for 175.0 ETH ($343,761.25).

It’s a little odd, considering how Robbie doesn’t mint artwork on-chain anymore. He believes the media coverage and publicity surrounding his art cast it in the wrong light, drawing the attention of audiences to the economic upside to the detriment of appreciating his work for its significance. We did a little deep dive into Barrat’s story (read it here).

That’s all for now, folks!
